YouTube the video streaming giant has unveiled the much-awaited YouTube premium tier and YouTube Music in the Kenyan market. This comes at a time when the likes of Apple Music and Spotify have been well-received and appreciated by most of the people in Kenya. The platforms were officially available as of December 6, 2023.
The two tiers mean that you no longer need to use a VPN to access the platforms locally as it was before. All you need is your debit card and a Google account with access to YouTube. The subscription means you enjoy an ad-free experience, an option to download videos and music to listen offline, and background listening both for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium.
YouTube Premium price in Kenya
For YouTube Premium, users will be charged Ksh 499 per month for the one-user tier and Ksh 949 for the family bundle on Android. On iOS, users will be charged $4.99 and $9.49 respectively. YouTube Premium users will get the YouTube music option bundled together and in Kenya there is a 30-day free trial to kick-start your premium experience.
For YouTube Music, users will be charged a monthly fee of Ksh 419 for the one-user tier and Ksh 669 for the Family bundle on Android. On iOS, users will be charged $4.29 and $6.59 respectively. This also comes with a free 30-day trial.
Both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music have a student-only tier that costs Ksh 289 and Ksh 209 per month respectively.
All the above can be paid via Mpesa Global pay virtual visa card if you cannot access your debit or credit card.
